I must confess to a glitch in my geographical knowledge-base, until this tour, Kelowna in British Columbia is not a town I'd heard of. It's a beautiful town with a population of a quarter of a million situated on the Okanagan lake. It's name is derived from a native term for female grizzly bear. With a pleasant climate and two popular ski resorts close by, Kelowna is known to be one of the fastest growing cities in North America. Our driver was telling us that house properties have tripled in 15 years. Our flight in this afternoon from Vancouver was predictably scenic and quite short, so it was a bit of a mad dash for Caroline, to get the lunch snacks out. Mark was first to leap into action and help serve up.

The airfield here which is in the process of being transformed into an international airport seems to be a bit of a junkyard for old planes. There were hundreds of fuselages sitting there rusting, stripped of anything useful of recyclable. Most seem to be Douglas DC3's or similar. The DC3 was the aircraft that revolutionized air travel in the 30's and 40' with it's speed and range. It used to fly across America in only 15 hours, only stopping three times for fuel!

Dan and I went for a wander after doing a brief interview with Kerry Lewis, our trusty monitor man for the upcoming 'behind the scenes - monitors' production. The scenery here is quite spectacular and the light is so photo-friendly. The temperature was a bit of a shock too, it's very warm, much warmer than Vancouver.

As we found our way back to the venue, we detected a distinctly excitable atmosphere amongst the people entering the venue, I'm not sure how many acts come through here but obviously it's a first for us. A moderate sized hocky/sports arena that reminded us of some of the European gigs, the dressing room was most unpleasant situated in a sports changing-room/toilet/shower the carpet absolutely wreaked of carpet cleaning fluid (I know this cos we have an incontinent dog at home) and with only two chairs in it, there wasn't the space or desire to hang there. It was a delight to be outside though.

The show itself was really fun and the audience were very excitable. A small number couldn't resist the temptation to film but generally that's been less of an issue over here. A great sound on-stage and it was nice to have the full lighting rig back in place. It was certainly warm by the end though and we were all sweating a bit as we climbed into the cars for the run back to the plane. Wheels up just before the 11:00PM curfew and some post-show sashimi was served up by Caroline, this time I lent a hand. Back in the hotel bar for a quick beer and realize we're all fading fast. Bed beckons.

Jesca on her way to her dressing room with stage gear. Jesca Hoop is our support act for the tour and is traveling on the lighting bus. If you're coming to any of our shows, make sure you get there early to hear her extraordinary voice and songs.
