Friday October 5th, the famous BBC sound studios, Maida Vale London

Broadcast date - November 19th 2007

The wonderful studio 3 at Maida Vale seems more familiar this time. We've all done bits and pieces there over the years. I arrived with Danny early in the afternoon, just in time for the last of the BBC canteen hot lunch food before it is consigned to the . . well, wherever it goes when it's not wanted. I dread to think. A nice piece of cod with BBC chips and a cup of world famous BBC tea! Perfect. Then back down to the studio to watch Colin and Glenn finishing the setup. Studio 5 live room was the makeshift dressing room kitted out with couch, 2 80's foam chairs, an upright piano and a BBC piano stool. The obligatory catering trolley contained the rider, complete sandwiches, fruit and fresh coffee containers. Actually, the coffee was very good. Sorry, only one picture as I neglected to charge the camera.

The BBC's iPlayer is about to relaunch following a beta test. It will enable viewers to download single episodes or entire series a month after airing. In other BBC news, an archival project will put a million hours of historic material online for free, according to the Guardian. In this case there's a catch. You'll have to pay the annual BBC license fee to access it. The archives include an interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, conducted two days before the shooting, in which they candidly discuss the impact of their relationship on the Beatles. There's also an interview with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., conducted the day before his death, in which he says: "The important thing isn't how long you live, but how well you live."

Been overhearing rumours and reading comments regarding the BBC's long-term plans to sell off their Maida Vale studios by way of a property sale, if this were to happen it would indeed be a very sad day in the history of the British music industry. I sincerely hope it never comes to that but only time will tell. I mean it's not as if the place is falling apart, it's quite simply a brilliant facility, crammed full of wonderful equipment and buzzing with exciting production and talent. If the beeb decided to pull the plug it would be a very sad day.

Anyway, after lunch I found my way to said couch and promptly fell asleep for an hour whilst Danny did his shed-building thing. Next thing I know, Luke and Dudley are here and MK too. It's time for a soundcheck. And rehearsal as it happened, as Simon Mayo had mentioned a copuple of tunes he'd like to discuss which of course this line-up never rehearsed. So Far Away being one of them and the other - Local Hero, Mark and I obliged during the show, prompted by a bit of chat about movies and soundtracks. After the gig, we polished off the rest of the sandwiches. Rock'n'roll.
