Another mile-munching day which we started in New York and ended in Chicago with a stop in Boston for a show. We said goodbye to the Peninsula Hotel and drove up the west side of Manhattan across the George Washington bridge towards Teeterborough for the last time on this tour. It was a different G4 today but still as magic as the previous carpet. The weather played a role in the day's proceedings as we were informed that there was a particularly nasty 'cell' over Boston and ATC couldn't guarantee us getting in. There was an option to divert to Bedford Mass. which we took without hesitation as it would merely mean an extra 30 minutes drive to the venue. After plates of huge shrimp for our onboard lunch, we landed in Bedford minutes ahead of a ridiculous cloudburst and accompanying lightening storm. 45 minutes later we arrive at the Pavillion where it has been raining since 2 o'clock this afternoon. No problems for the crew though as the venue is beautifully designed and the stage and seating areas are very well covered. The line of thunderstorms passes by showtime and as we all remember from last year, this is a seriously great crowd. The weather is still very warm and humid as we take to the stage and a barrage of applause which continues after every song. More radio problems for most of us onstage with searingly loud bursts of random interference through which it's very hard to focus; still, we soldier on uplifted by the pure enthusiasm, noise and smiles coming from the crowd. A great show and one had the feeling we could have played another hour of encores. Maybe next time we will. Then it's the usual runner to the plane which had relocated to Logan airfield a mere 10 minutes away from the gig, then it was off to Chicago to gain an hour and unneccesarily devour massive quantities of chinese food onboard.
