On the left is a shot of Chad and Richard's taxi (no.7) overtaking Mark's 'putt putt' (no.35) on the straight leading down to the backstage turn. As you can see the power difference is vast. The pic on the right is just before the finish line and I'm (22) just ahead of Mark (35) by a whisker. Taxi no. 7 took a wrong turn and finished last.
Seriously, This is not really a true representation of the traffic situation in Bombay. It really is a free-for-all.....but with a difference. The level of traffic courtesy is much higher here than in Europe or America. Nobody really gets mad, even though the situation may seem impossible and you think you'll never arrive at your destination, there never seems to be a smile very far away. Indeed, I managed to raise a few from various 'putt putt' drivers whilst sitting in the gig traffic.
The show tonight was a great one. I guess the crowd was about 20,000. We went onstage at 7:40 and with a strict curfew at 10:00 judged the set to perfection with one exception, we didn't play Our Shangri-La as planned but came on for the last encore and just played Mist covered mountains/Local Hero. Once again, the band all had a great sound onstage throughout the show. Mark and I took the final bow and were whisked off back to the Taj hotel for yet another wonderful bite to eat.
I've had so many questions about the set list, here it is (this won't be a regular feature)- Why aye man, walk of life, what it is, sailing to Philadelphia, Trawlerman's song, Romeo and Juliet, Sultans, Bonaparte, Song for Sonny Liston, Donegan's gone, Baloney again, Speedway at Nazereth, Boom like that, Telegraph Rd. ---- Brothers in arms, Money for nothing, so far away --- Mist covered mountains/Local hero

View here from behind my keyboard rig at about 6:40pm, one hour before showtime.

Onstage in Mumbai

Yesterday.....
Arrived in India. Wow, what a welcome. When we arrived at the hotel, all the staff were wearing masks, there were dancing girls. flowers etc. The whole band and crew were all given the traditional Indian (tikka) vermillion streak you can see on on Mark's forehead.

After the press conference, a short meeting.......A big fan of MK and DS is the great Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest batsman in the world. Mark and I had a chat with him and his wife. Sachin presented Mark with one of his bats which he signed. In turn, Mark then gave Sachin a signed signature Fender Strat.
To cap it all off, we were then taken to the Masala Bay restaurant at the hotel and treated to THE most spectacular curry I think I've ever had!
